Was it viagra that caused my sudden hearing loss?
« on: December 15, 2009, 03:38:13 pm »
Not sure 100% if this is the case as Viagra isnt something I take all of the time but too much of a coincidence that the day after taking the pill I experienced profound hearing loss.  My advice is if you experience any hearing loss due to medication (of any kind) stop taking it.

Checked the packet and noticed that possible side effects of Viagra are hearing loss and loss of vision.  I ask myself is it really worth it?  Has anybody else experienced this due to Viagra or does anybody else have any medication related stories they wish to share?

Hi Ragsyates,

Good question, and possibly quite a serious concern due to the growing usage of this drug.  Can anyone offer any advice on the subject?

Further to this, we've just done a little investigation on the internet and have found the following report:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The earth may move and the heavens may shake but drug regulators now think Viagra could also make you go deaf.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first became aware of this bizarre potential side effect back in April, when a 44-year-old man suffered sudden and profound hearing loss in both ears after taking Viagra (sildenafil citrate) for just over two weeks.

Fast forward six months and the FDA has now uncovered 29 reports of sudden hearing loss associated with phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, the class of drugs to which Viagra belongs.

Although no one has proved that the drugs directly cause hearing loss, the association is strong enough to have prompted the FDA to insist the drugs' labels should be changed to warn of the potential risk "more prominently".

So there might possibly be some connection to be made.
