Help, my tinnitus is worse after wax removal
« on: January 26, 2010, 08:56:16 pm »
Hi,

I've had a more or less constant noise in my left ear since for the last few months. Getting to sleep is a bit of a pain and I often need a bit of background noise to help me get to sleep.

The other week I went to see an ENT specalist and he removed a fair bit of wax from my ear drum. This seemed to do the trick for a while and my sleeping became better. However yesterday I had a follow up appointment and the doctor again removed some more wax which had formed on the eardrum. It hurt a little when the wax was removed this time, and the noise has now come back, even worse than before.

Will this die down a little? Could the doc have scratched my eardrum upon removing the wax?  I'm getting a bit anxious.

Thank you.
Cindy.

Hello, and thanks for posting your question here.

Do you often suffer from a build of up ear wax? If so, have you tried bicarbonate of soda eardrops or olive oil to help keep the wax from hardening?

Your tinnitus (albeit temporary) should clear once your ear canals and eustachion tubes are free from wax, as this can often be the cause.

Is it really true you should not use ear buds, no matter what my granma swears by them and she has had hearing difficulties most of her adult life

Yeah you shouldn't use ear buds for inside the ear it compacts the wax, this has happened to me and now I trying to find the best process for removing ear wax

Hello...

Deep wax can cause pain, fullness, noise  in the ear or hearing loss....So you can use or ask your doctor to use a wire loop under a strong headlamp to remove the wax gently...Or, vacuum the ear with light suction. But it is best  to consult different ways with your doctor.
