Battery Questions
« on: September 14, 2010, 08:29:43 pm »
Hello,

I've got a few questions about hearing aid batteries that I hope you can answer.

After you get a sense of how long your batteries last, do you typically wait for them to die before changing the or do you change the pre-emptively? For example, if they usually last 6-7 days, you changed them last Sunday, now it’s the next Sunday and you’re about to go out to dinner, do you just change them ahead of time? Just wondering how most people handle this.

Where do you buy your batteries? I'm not sure whether to buy them online or not, but my friends tell me I can save quite a bit.

Do you believe certain brands work better than others? My audiologist recommends Power One and says they are much better than other brands.

What is the shelf life of these batteries and how do you store them? Since we typically get a volume discount, I bought enough to last probably 6-8 months. Would it make sense to store them in the fridge, or does it make no difference and storing at room temp is adequate?

Thanks,

Emma.

Hi Emma, I would suggest once you hear the 'low battery' warning at the first opportunity change the battery, typically you might have 30-60 minutes left before the battery expires completely.
I have some clients who know their batteries last 8-9 days and change them every Sunday to make life easier. Others wait for them to expire. As they don't cost too much (we supply them at 10 packs of 6 for £13.95 which works out at 23p a cell) I guess you should go with whatever you feel most comfortable with.
I've not had much experience with Power One, I have favoured the market leader Rayovac for many years, although we also supply Duracell which seem very popular too. If you look at the sales of these two brands compared to others their market share far outweighs any other, particularly in the UK.
Our batteries tend to ship with about 4 years of date, I think storing them at room temerature would be best.
Hope this helps.
