'Harsh' sounds from aids.
« on: November 25, 2010, 09:38:31 pm »
Six months ago I went for an NHS hearing test and was fitted with two 'open ear' Oticon Zest hearing aids. Overall I am delighted with the aids and find that I now rarely have to ask people to repeat themselves!

One thing that I am not so keen on is the trebly 'harshness' to some sounds. Many voices on TV programmes, for example, sound really grating (and I have a good quality home-cinema system!).

Is this something that I just have to learn to live with - or can the sound be adjusted (like a quality hi-fi) in terms of treble/bass?

Hi Kev,

Have you tried going back to your audiologist about this? They should be able to adjust them slightly.

I will certainly do this. The aids have certainly improved my hearing and I wear them constantly during waking hours - but the harshness at times is irritating.

I'll see if they can be adjusted.

Thank you

Kev

Hey!
If you let your audiologist know this (describing it in the exact way you have on your post) s/he'll be able to sort it out by turning your hearing aids down at the higher frequencies. The only thing is, when you do this, some patients find they loose clarity of speech. This could also be the case for you since you have acclimatised to your hearing aids and need them turned up which will exaserbate your problem inititial problem of the hearing aids sounding harsh, because you'll be increasing the imput of your hearing aids and therfor increasing the 'harsh' sound. perhaps your audiologist will turn your hearing aids up at the lower and frequencies only...

Comfort Contego

Comfort Contego is a digital, secure communication system with a zoom microphone both in the transmitter and the receiver. The digital, coded radio transmission makes it almost impossible to intercept a conversation.

A digital radio system
The sound is transmitted digitally which means perfect sound on every occasion. This also makes it possible to have a level of security that has not previously been possible with wireless hearing systems for hearing impaired people.

Security
The transmitter and the receiver are paired by the transmitter sending a coded key to the receiver. The digital, coded radio transmission makes it almost impossible to intercept a conversation.

Microphone with zoom function both in the transmitter and the receiver
Comfort Contego makes it possible for the user to get the best possible reception of sound on every occasion. The transmitter has a zoom function; a directional and omni-directional microphone setting. The directional microphone setting effectively reduces disturbing background sounds in noisy environments. The receiver has a built in microphone, which also has a zoom function. This means that the best possible sound reception is achieved via the digital sound transmission as well as via the built in microphone.

Easy to use
Comfort Contego is small, light and comfortable to use. It has a clear menu system that you can see on the display. Comfort Contego is not sensitive to being touched.

Modern design
Comfort Contego has a discrete, modern and elegant appearance. It has a built in aerial and a newly designed neck loop.

Sounds from a variety of sources
By using a Sound kit, which makes it possible to amplify the sound from many different sound sources, you can for instance listen to TV or a stereo.
